THE PHILIPPINES’ national women’s volleyball squad literally face a tall order when they take on China in the quarterfinals of the Asian Under-23 Women’s Volleyball Championship today at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

The date with the mighty Chinese was booked on Tuesday evening when the hosts lost to Chinese Taipei, 25-21, 18-25, 12-25, 19-25. The win allowed Chinese Taipei to face off against Korea with the other quarterfinals pairings seeing Japan battle India and Thailand take on Iran.

“China is very strong, let’s face it,” said Gorayeb after Tuesday’s match, while questioning some crucial calls that greatly hurt the chances of his wards down the stretch.

“Mahirap kalaban ang China. They are a solid team. But this is a learning process for us. Mas gusto namin lumaban sa mga malalakas na teams para mas madami kami matutunan,” he added.

Tzu-Ya Lee delivered 13 kills to finish with 15 points while Tzu-Ya Chen and Wan-Ling Tseng contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively, for Chinese Taipei, which took advantage of the Nationals’ 35 errors.
