A JAIL officer was shot to death by two motorcycle-riding assailants in barangay Nailon, Bogo City, northern Cebu early morning yesterday.
Junrey Malait, who was an intelligence officer of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Bogo, had confided to his wife that he had received death threats.
The motive of the killing could be work-related, said SPO1 Alexander Ancao, desk officer of the Bogo City Police Station.
Police said the victim was about to open his store in sitio Looc around 6 a.m. when two men on a motorcycle arrived.
The two men, who wore crash helmets, fired shots and hit the victim in the abdomen and chest.
Malait ran inside his store but was chased by the two assailants, who finished him off with shots to the head.
The gunmen drove off after the attack.
Police recovered three empty shells and three slugs of a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.
