The man behind the RC packs of fruits and vegetables in local supermarkets is trying his hand at sushi.

Robert Chua has partnered with Mega Resto chain for the first Yakimix Sushi and Smokeless Grill Restaurant in Cebu.

The restaurant, located along Escario Street, offers an eat-all-you-can buffet of Chinese, Japanese and Korean dishes as well as marinated meat and seafood for grilling. Drinks are also unlimited.

“The restaurant soft opened just last Saturday (May 16) and already we have been enjoying full bookings for both lunch and dinner,” Chua said. He has a 25 percent stake in the venture.

He said he decided to invest in the restaurant business because it is related to his vegetable and fruit distribution business.

“I also trust the brand, which is already very famous in Manila. This is the kind of value-for-money propositions that will really sell in Cebu,” said Chua.

Yakimix offers unlimited food and drinks at only P499 for lunch and P599 for dinner.

First introduced in Manila in 1998, there are now 10 Yakimix branches in Manila. There is also a branch in General Santos City and another in Davao.

Regional operations head for the brand Chito Manlapaz said they are also eyeing to expand to other key cities like Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo and Pampanga.

“In every location, we always have partners. In Cebu, we think we can have one more branch. We’re still looking for another good location,” said Manlapaz.

Chua said he is interested to partner with the chain for the second branch in Cebu.

Mega Resto Chain also operates other eat-all-you-can restaurant brands like Filipino Fiesta, City Buffet and Buffet 101.
