From UC to SWU, Jan Auditor sure knows how to jibe

MAKING the transition from one team to another is never an easy task. But for current Southwestern University wingman Jan Auditor who, after years with the University of Cebu, made the switch to the reigning Cesafi champions, it has been a match made in heaven.

And the numbers prove it as Auditor, who won a title with the UC Webmasters alongside reigning PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo and Blackwater guard Brian Heruela back in 2011, averaged 11 points per game in three outings so far in the ongoing Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.

After scoring 16 points, 10 in the second period in their 73-60 win over the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, their first in the league, Auditor hopes to sustain that hot start when the Cobras match wits with the University of the East Red Warriors today at the Arena in San Juan.

As Auditor shared, SWU’s system, authored by champion head coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba, fits him like a glove.

“When I transferred to SWU, I was nervous but when I played and practiced with them, parang nabigla ako kasi di ko inakala na magugustohan ko pala yung system ni Coach Yayoy (Alcoseba) and sa tulong ni Coach Mike (Reyes) mas na i-improve ko yung playing style ko,” said Auditor after the team’s early morning practice at the Ronac Center in San Juan.

And though it appears that Auditor made the right decision in transferring from the rebuilding Webmasters to the championship-seeking Cobras, the decision was not easy to make, said Auditor.

“Before leaving UC I asked permission from my coaches and especially Atty. (Baldomero) Estenzo. It was a heart-breaking talk but I wanted something new. I respect the UC Community and I am thankful for all the support and chances they gave to me,” the 6-foot-1 guard said.

For now, Auditor is enjoying the last ride of his collegiate basketball career with talents that match his.

“For me it’s not difficult to play with this team because all the players are working and I enjoy their company. They push me to bring out the best in me and it boosts my confidence.”
