TWO barangay watchmen and a retired fireman were wounded in a shootout in barangay Cantibas, Balamban town, western Cebu.

Romualdo Laya was wounded in the hand while Arnel Melgar was shot in the body.

Police said Laya was able to return fire and hit Anselmo Balbona, 56, in the shoulder.

Police said Laya and Melgar were on patrol when they heard gunshots.

They came upon Balbona having a drinking session with his friends.

The watchmen approached Balbona’s group to ask who fired the shots, but the retired fireman allegedly drew a gun and fired.

Police said Balbona fled in a van, but was intercepted in barangay Buanoy. A .45 pistol was allegedly recovered from his possession.

He was detained after getting treatment for his gunshot wound.

The two watchmen were brought to a hospital in Cebu City. The firearm used by Laya was not recovered.
