ACREEX kept its bid for the semifinals alive after stunning the league-leading Polyfloor, 71-63, in the Architects + Engineers Basketball Association 1st Davies Cup last Sunday at the Cebu Eastern College gym.

Lefty guard Richard Badayos stepped up big time as he notched 22 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals while Jun Villacorta added 11.

Acreex led at halftime, 33-26, but suddenly got blitzed by the younger and more athletic Polyfloor in the third, 13-23, to trail, 46-49, heading to the last stanza.

However, Acreex kept its bearings and struck back in the fourth, where it outscored its rivals, 25-14, to grab its third win in seven games while pulling down Polyfloor to its second loss against five wins.

Meanwhile, three teams found themselves tied at 4-3 after Elastogel outlasted Stay Clean, 68-61, and Fusion blasted Aqua Gloss, 87-56.

Ed Macasling led Fusion’s balanced scoring attack with 23 points while Neil Benedicto added 19. Aqua Gloss fell further down to the bottom of the team standings with a 1-6 (win-loss) card.

The top four teams at the end of the double round-robin eliminations will advance to the semifinals with the top two finishers earning a twice-to-beat advantage.
