Sitoy to pass ordinances to protect PWDs

July 07,2015 - 10:03 AM

CEBU Provincial Board Member Arleigh Jay Sitoy said that he will sponsor two ordinances to protect the rights of PWDs.

He spoke during the opening of PWD month at the Ayala Activity Center last Saturday.

Sitoy, committee chairman for Persons with Disabilities (PWD), said that ensures that people who discriminate against a PWD should be meted with penalties.

“I will submit on first reading an ordinance that anyone who discriminates and bullies PWDs will be jailed,” he said.

Sitoy said that teachers who allow bullying of PWDs to happen will also be fined.

He proposed that companies employing PWDs will be given a 10 percent reduction on their real property tax.

Together with Sitoy, several nongovernment organizations, the Cebu City and Cebu Provincial governments officially opened the PWD month when they imprinted their hands on the Power Hand Wall.

The wall will stay for the month of July to build up public awareness. /UP Cebu Intern Mary Claire U. Catado
