Bike driver killed in road mishap

A 54-year-old man died while his companion was injured after the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a car driven by a drunk motorist at 4 a.m. yesterday in barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.

Rolando Flores, of barangay Bankal, Lapu-Lapu City, was declared dead by attending doctors at the Mactan Doctors’ Hospital because of severe injuries.

His back rider, Jinggoy Matidios, 20, of barangay Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City sustained injuries in his legs and bruises in the body.

PO1 Cesar Gabule, traffic investigator of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, identified the motorist as Korean national Min Su Kim, 29, who is temporarily residing in Brookfield Subdivision in barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City. He tested positive in the liquor test.

Investigation revealed Flores was traversing Basak road on the way to MEZ II when Min’s car on the opposite lane swerved to the center and collided with the motorcycle.

Flores was found under the car after the impact while Matidios was thrown a few meters away.

Min is detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office while charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injury and damage to property are being prepared against him.
