A  64-year-old Japanese tourist died  while scuba diving off Olango Island in Lapu-Lapu City last Monday afternoon.

Kenichi Nakaizuma, a native of Yamaguchi, Japan, was diving with  Dino Ompad, operations manager of Scuba Star based in barangay Maribago, when the incident happened.

According to police, the boatman noticed that while the two were underwater, the Japanese was struggling.

Ompad said they suspected that the Japanese was suffering from hypertension or heart illness.

Nakaizuma was one of their new guests, he said.

Ompad and the boatman rescued the Japanese and brought him ashore on a motor banca.

Paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation tried to revive the tourist on their way to the Mactan Doctors’ Hospital to no avail.

The Japanese was declared dead by Dr. Junmay Dacal.

SPO1 Allan Frederick Pantaleon said police found no sign of  foul play  in the death of Nakaizuma. His remains were brought  to the Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes for autosy, police said.
