Basketball hopefuls will get a chance to learn from one of the finest players that Cebu has ever produced when Dondon Hontiveros conducts his first-ever basketball training camp at the Don Bosco Technical High School in barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City.

Open to participants aged seven to 17 years old, the DH25 Basketball Camp will be held on all weekends of August.

The August 1, 8, 9, 23, 30 sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon while the August 2, 22, and 29 camps are scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Schedule and venue for the August 15 and 16 sessions will be announced soon.

In an interview, Hontiveros, the veteran gunner of the Alaska Aces, said the camp will be unique as it will not just be all about learning the basic techniques in basketball.

“Out of the 10 sessions, one day will be spent for a community outreach. The camp will not only enhance the students’ basketball skills but we will also help them develop values formation,” said Hontiveros, known as the Cebuano Hotshot in the Philippine Basketball Association.

“I am glad that I have the platform to influence the development of the kids. To help build their character is the main reason why I decided to have this camp,” Hontiveros stressed.

Assisting Hontiveros in the camp are his former high school classmates at Don Bosco Ian Brigoli and triathlete Vince Escobido as well as Stephen Padilla, Reggie Licanda, Mario Suarez, Leo Casinillo and Rey dela Victoria.

Participants will be divided into groups. The groupings will depend on the result in the leveling.

“We will have various drills. We will teach various defensive and offensive techniques. I will also talk about proper nutrition since this is the target of the Alaska Power Camp. I’m sure the students will really enjoy the camp,” Hontiveros said.

Registration fee is pegged at P2,500. Upon graduation, students will get an Alaska shirt, Power Camp jersey, basketball and loot bags.

One can register at V-Label Shop located at JY Mall in barangay Lahug. Interested parties may also call Risa Gabonia at mobile numbers 09223399289 and 0915-4134373.
