People should stay indoors during a thunderstorm.

If you are outside, seek shelter in  a building to avoid getting struck by lightning, said Mactan weather bureau chief Alfredo Quiblat.

“Stay away from water bodies like rivers, pools and the  sea because water is a good conductor of electricity,” he said.

“It is also not advisable to stay under trees,” he added because  pointed, protruding  objects could attract  ligtning.

People  indoors should not touch metallic objects, he added.

Lightning could extend up to 9 kilometers, he said.

His advice came after a heavy downpour yesterday resulted in the death of a secuirity guard, who was at home, where he was apparently struck by a lightning bolt that may have hit an external antennae.
