Chito Narvasa spent his first day as the new commissioner of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) in Cebu where he delivered an inspirational message to the athletes during the opening of the 15th season of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.

Narvasa, who officially started his tenure as PBA commissioner yesterday, said he wished to see a lot of the Cebuano basketball players present before him in the big leagues soon.

“Cebu has the most competitive league outside Manila and it has produced a lot of exceptional players. There’s June Mar Fajardo right here who’s the league MVP and in the past I’ve coached Jojo Lim, Peter Naron and Boy Cabahug,” he said. “I expect many more to join very soon.”

Narvasa also encouraged the athletes to appreciate the opportunities that are being given to them, both on and off the floor.

“Be grateful to your schools that you are being given this arena to showcase your talents. But also do well in school because this will also open up other opportunities for you.”

Narvasa was chosen to replace Chito Salud, who is now the PBA’s  first president and chief executive officer.
