A man and his uncle were charged with libel for allegedly maligning a dead person in Facebook.

The Cebu City Prosecutors’ Office charged  Dean Severo Dosado and his uncle Ambrosio with libel in court.

The issue stemmed from the complaint filed by Mario Visitacion whose father Jaime died last March 10, 2013.

Sometime in March 2014, Visitacion discovered that Dosado posted a letter which Ambrosio wrote in his personal Facebook account and in another group page.

The letter addressed to Jaime accused him of trying to grab the land that belongs to the Dosados. The post was reportedly seen by several persons, most of whom are relatives of Jaime.

In his counter-affidavit, Dosado  admitted that he posted the letter written by his uncle over a year ago.

But he said the case  should be dismissed because it was filed over a year after the alleged offense was discovered.

The prosecutor found out that the disputed  letter was posted on Feb. 7, 2014.
