The Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats logged their first win in four games by escaping the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, 92-87,  in overtime in the ongoing Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.

JR dela Cerna scored 35 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for CIT-U, which snapped a three-game losing streak. Garciano Puerto had 21 points for UC, which dropped to 2-2 (win-loss).

CIT-U actually had the game in hand when it took a 42-27 lead in the first half, courtesy of Dela Cerna, who scored most of his points in the shaded lane.
UC slowly crawled back in the second half and even tasted its first lead late in the third, 47-45.

Dela Cerna restored order for CIT-U by scoring 11 markers in the last four minutes of the third to give the Wildcats a 61-54 cushion going to the final period.
It was a see-saw battle in the fourth that ended with a 77-all score capped by a game-tying layup by UC’s Justine Dacalos that forced overtime.

Dela Cerna gave CIT-U a nine-point edge midway through overtime but he fouled out and UC capitalized on his absence and  tied the game, 87-87, in the final minute.

Steven Bucao, though, nailed a crucial three-point shot to give CIT-U a 90-87 lead with 40 seconds left. Jose Alvin Dimco added two more points for CIT-U for the final tally.

MAGIS EAGLES STILL UNBEATEN
The reigning junior division champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles thrashed their rivals University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Green Lancers, 73-64, in their first encounter of the season and improved to 3-0.

Andrew Vincent Velasco led the Magis Eagles with 22 points, two rebounds and two assists while teammate Eroll Pastor chipped in 11 markers.

RJ Cabahug’s 31 points went to waste for UV, which suffered its second loss in four games.

In other juniors division match-ups, the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F)routed Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC), 71-40, while UC edged CIT-U, 83-64.
