Tesda regional skills tilt opens in Cebu

About 31 young vocational workers will compete in a three-day regional skills competition sponsored by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

The workers are trained in the fields of automobile technology, refrigeration and air conditioning, electrical installation, welding, mechatronics, hairdressing, beauty therapy, IT software and solution for business, IT network system administration, graphic design technology, web design, fashion technology, cooking, and restaurant service.

The participants came from the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor and qualifiers will represent Central Visayas in the national skills competition.

The event opened at the Toyota Mandaue South at the North Reclamation Area today, August 26 and the skills competition will be held in various venues.

The contest venues are Toyota Mandaue South for the automobile technology, Mary Our Help Technical Institute for Women (Cebu) Inc in Minglanilla for mechatronics; Rose International Institute of Beauty Inc. in Cebu City for hair dressing and beauty therapy; University of Visayas New School in Banilad for the IT software and solution, IT network system administration, graphic design technology, web design; FIDA for the Fasion Technology; University of Cebu in Sanciangko St., Cebu City for cooking and restaurant service; while the refrigeration, airconditioning, welding, and electrical installation will be held at the Tesda Regional Training Center.

TESDA Secretary Joel Villanueva said private industries are key in the development and improvement of the quality of technical, vocational and skills education in the country.

He said the skills competition aims to inspire the younger generation in building their skills in different trades and promote the quality of technical vocational education in the country.
