The Mormon Temple on Gorordo Avenue is one of 15 structures identified by the Cebu city government as encroaching on a public road in barangay Lahug.

Ely Espina, executive assistant and Kahayag Sugbo coordinator, said church officials already agreed to set back the property in line with the city’s plans for road widening.

However, representatives of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints  need to get clearance from their head office in Manila, according to Espina.

The 15 structures lie  along  Gorordo Avenue from the  Mormon temple to  JY Square mall. Since some structures are on private lots, it was important to dialog with the owners, said Espina. A dialog is  set for Friday.  Some owners will agree to a setback from the national road provided they are compensated., he said.

“Right now the road is 14 meters wide instead of 20 meters,” said Espina.
