FOUR people were killed in separate road accidents in Cebu province on Sunday and Monday.

In Alcantara town, southwestern Cebu, a retired teacher died after she was hit by a motorcycle driven by Alvin Alcosero when she crossed the highway in barangay Poblacion last Sunday night.

Perla Ocariza, 63, suffered fatal injuries to the head. She was thrown by the impact and landed hard, with her head hitting the pavement.

She was rushed to the hospital but she did not make it alive.

Alcosero was detained at the Alcantara police station pending the filing of charges.

On Monday, a grandmother carrying her one-year-old grandchild was sideswiped by a Kia Sedan driven by Eleazar Retuya in barangay Atabay, Alcoy town, southern Cebu.

Police said Aurelia Anor died in the hospital after she suffered multiple injuries in her body due to the accident.

Her grandchild Rhea Mae Anor  suffered bruises on her body and was confined in the hospital for treatment.

Retuya told police that he was heading home from a vacation in Sumilon Island when he suddenly lost control of his car.

Retuya’s car hit a trisikad parked at the roadside before it slammed into Anor and her granddaughter.

Retuya was detained at the police station, but police said he has reached a settlement with the victim’s family.

In Sibonga town on the same day, Feliciano Cuizon, 60, died after he was hit by a Hyundai van driven by Arnaiz de Gracia, 31, of Carcar City.

Police said Cuizon was crossing the street when the van rammed into him.

De Gracia told police that he was heading to the Sibonga Public market when the accident happened.

Also on the same day, in Danao City, northern Cebu, a 59-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was driving collided head-on with a tricycle in barangay Sabang.

Florencio Almerez, who was on his way home, died after the accident. The unidentified tricycle driver escaped, leaving his tricycle and two injured passengers, Christian Beboso, 20, and Jessica Bantulay, 19 on the highway.

Police are still trying to identify the tricycle driver involved in the collision.
