The Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras dominated the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) badminton tournament, topping eight of the 14 divisions last Sunday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

In the highschool division, SWU’s Kathleen Verallo took down Mitzi Montalvo of the University of San Carlos (USC) to grab the girls’ singles title.

The Lady Cobras’ Trisha Opon and Elloise Canillo also defeated a USC pair in the girls’ doubles finals.

Canillo teamed up with Anthone Abellana to grab the mixed doubles trophy against USC’s Alyssa Dayday and Carl Bejasa.

In the boys’ division, the Cobras came up short in singles competition against USC but recovered to win the boys’ doubles championship after Anthone Abellana and Harvey Tungol downed the pair of University of Cebu in the final round.

In the collegiate division, Fritz Sagaad of SWU outlasted Kent Cabural of USJ-R to bring home the men’s singles B title.

In the distaff side, Android Tingson and Jwuna Francisco of SWU crushed their respective opponents to secure the women’s A and women’s B singles titles, respectively.

The Cobras also ruled the collegiate mixed doubles division by ending the tournament with a total of 10 points. USC took home runner up honors with seven points while the University of Cebu (UC) finished third with five markers.

The University of San Carlos Warriors came in second overall in the event, winning the girls’ singles B, boys’ singles A and boys’ singles B titles.

UC failed to win a title in the highschool division but topped the men’s singles A and the men’s doubles in the collegiate division. The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) won the women’s doubles crown.
