Former mayor Alvin seeks Congress seat; son eyes council

Team Rama yesterday announced its candidates for Cebu City’s north district, completing its lineup for the 2016 elections.
Former mayor Alvin Garcia leads the slate as congressional candidate.
He’s up against re-electionist Rep. Raul del Mar of the Liberal Party.
Garcia’s son lawyer Raymond Alvin Garcia, barangay councilman of Camputhaw, is eyeing a seat in the 16-member City Council.
The lineup was announced at the Rama Compound in barangay San Nicolas, where the clan’s ancestral house “brings so many memories” said reelectionist Mayor Michael Rama.
The residence used to be occupied by former Gov. Osmundo Rama and Don Vicente Rama, father of the Cebu City Charter.
Mayor Rama said they will present all candidates for north and south districts before the launching of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) in Cebu on October 9 at the Cebu Coliseum.
Team Rama is officially known as Partido Panaghiusa sa Panerbisyo-Team Rama-United Nationalist Alliance (PPP-TRUNA).
Barangay captains Joel Garganera of Tinago and Ramil Ayuman of Apas are also vying for a spot in the Council along with incumbent City Councilor Noel Wenceslao, Pastor “Jun” Alcover, Jerry Guardo, Edwin Jagmoc and Edgardo JP Labella Jr., son of Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella.
Garganera is vice president of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC)-Cebu City Chapter while Ayuman is a member of its board.
Mayor Rama said they had more than eight probable candidates for the north district. He assured that if Team Rama wins next year’s elections, “they will always have a space (for them) in governance.”Among those who didn’t make the list were Bong Basamot, Ronnie Caminade, Ermita barangay captain Felicisimo “Imok” Rupinta, Melvin Legaspi, Busay barangay councilman Yody Sanchez and his niece Tara Rama.
Mayor Rama said former south district congressman Antonio “Tony” Cuenco is the party’s chairman emeritus while former Cebu City Councilor Procopio “Coping” Fernandez is vice chairman.
The Bando Osmeña – Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK) party, led by former mayor Tomas Osmeña, has yet to announce its complete lineup for the 2016 elections.“We will announce (our complete lineup) at the proper time,” he said in a text message.
