UNA to show Visayas candidates on Friday

Vice President Jejomar Binay will lead the Visayas-wide launching of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) in Cebu City on Friday.
Binay, who will be UNA’s standard bearer in the 2016 presidential elections, is also expected to announce his running mate by then.
Much speculation has surrounded his choice after Sen. Grace Poe turned him down in favor of her own candidacty and Sen. Bongbong Marcos indicated he would rather run for vice president with someone else, possible Rodolfo Duterte of Davao.
Lawyer Jose Daluz III, secretariat of the UNA in region 7, said UNA’s national and local candidates will be announced at the Cebu Coliseum.
The rally will start at around 7:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. with local UNA personalities followed by national UNA figures until 11:30 am, he said.
Former Cebu governor, now Cebu 3rd District Rep., Gwendolyn Garcia will be there.
Her younger brother Winston, who took over as One Cebu party chairman and is running for governor, has not committed to attend.
Team Rama candidates in Cebu City are also expected to be there.
Cebu City Michael Rama, who is seeking reelection, is UNA’s regional chairman for Central Visayas.
Daluz is eyeing a Cebu City Council seat under Team Rama, which is allied with UNA.
Former Siquijor Gov. Orlando Fua Jr., Thomas Gonzaga of Bohol, and Herminio “Menion” Teves of Negros Oriental are also expected.
Earlier reports indicated that Sen. Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan could be a possible running mate of Binay.
Yesterday, Camarines Sur Rep. Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo officially announced her bid for vice president under the Liberal Party (LP) with Mar Roxas as President.
Mayor Rama refused to comment when asked for his reaction on the tandem.
“I’m not interested if you’re talking about the other party. I am more excited in who will be our vice president,” Rama told reporters.
