THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Branch 13 said it is “very positive” about reaching its P25.4-billion tax target this year.

BIR 13 legal officer Neri Yu said they had a P5-billion revenue increase between last year and this year. They collected P20.9 billion in taxes from Central Visayas last year.

“We were already able to reach our (monthly) targets for the past three quarters of 2015. The compliance increases every year. We don’t have problems with most businessmen,” Yu said.

For the uncooperative, Yu said they will be compelled to close down their businesses.

The Blue Tops Restaurant in barangay Lahug, Cebu City was one such example on the crackdown on non-paying businesses under the BIR’s Oplan Kandado program.

The restaurant was temporarily closed on September 21 due to under declaration of sales and revenue, and non-issuance of receipts, Yu said.

Yu said the owners of Blu Tops filed a request to BIR 13 which the agency forwarded to their Manila office.
