Almost 200 Cebu City athletes will travel to San Jose, Antique on Nov. 11 to see action in the Visayas Leg of the Philippine National Games (PNG).

Myla Ipil of the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) revealed that the Cebu City Niños delegation will be composed of 180 players and coaches who will compete against best athletes in the Visayas.

The CCSC will send 19 Badminton players, 12 Taekwondo jins and 27 arnisadors, the biggest in the Cebu City contingent. Athletics has 26 representatives.

Combat sports Boxing and Karatedo will send 13 and 17 fighters, respectively while Muay Thai has 17 delegates. The city is also sending 10 athletes who will compete in Pencak Silat. Of this number however, the city will only shoulder the expenses of two representatives who are under its grassroots program. The other eight, she said, will still be supported by the city being its official representatives to the perennial qualifying games.

The swimming team will also send 16 tankers and 18 will represent the city in weight lifting. Archery and chess have seven and six players, respectively.

Players from different universities and high schools will compose the city’s delegation to the four-day games slated until Nov. 14. Out of school youth and graduated players will still be in action including badminton stalwart Kevin Bergantin.

The National Championship’s date and venue will be announced soon. The Luzon leg already ended last July while the Mindanao leg finished last September.
