A Cebu group launched yesterday their “Basura Asa Ka?” photo contest that will raise awareness on proper waste management and garbage disposal and prevent environmental degradation.

Organizers that include Cebu Republic project manager Neil Caipang and Ricky Sevilla of the Cebu Mountaineering Alliance Inc. wanted to capture how Cebu manages its garbage and the hazards that it causes on people and the environment through photos.

Sevilla also organized the Lunatrek, an outdoor adventure and environmental awareness campaign held last Sept. 26 and 27.

The photo contest was launched last night at the Outdoor Perspective Cafe located along Mango Avenue in Cebu City.

“Harming the environment is tantamount to harming its people and other species it nurtures. Be always prepared to give nature what is due to it by making the environment clean and serene,” said the group’s press release.

The contest is open to all photo enthusiasts and environmental advocates.

Entries should be taken from Nov. 8 to 22 while deadline for submission is on Nov. 25.

Photos should be sent to [email protected] with the photographers name, contact number and email address.

Each of the participants are entitled to submit a maximum of five entries.

Photos should not have appeared in any social networking or photo sharing sites while the contest is ongoing.

Criteria for judging include relevance to the theme (50%) and technical details (50%).

Winners will be announced on Nov. 30. All the winning photos will be placed on exhibit in Cebu malls and some schools from Dec. 5 to Jan. 31, 2016.
