THE Wonkwang Health Science University, through King Sejong Institute in Cebu, has been providing Korean language education to anyone who aspires to learn the language and experience Korean culture since 2013.

Just recently, two of its exemplary language learners attended the 2015 King Sejong Institute: Korean Culture and Language Workshop sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and arranged by King Sejong Institute Organization.

The event was attended by 120 foreign learners, including Jennifer Reroma and Akim Kiani Hisoler from Cebu.

The participants were made to experience K-pop dance, samulnori, taekwondo, and Korean dance, among others. They also got the chance to explore the beauty of the food and play of holiday in Seoul and Jeonju, and visit Gwanghwamun Gate, Folk Museum, Gyeongbokgung Palace and Jeonju City.

They also delivered a Korean speech during the Hangeul Day celebration.

Other challenges included making chuseok foods and Jeonju-style bibimbap.

Reroma, who is a nursing graduate, has some concerns about Korean culture since she just started learning the language this March.

Hisoler promised to continue studying the language. She added that the language hasn’t really hit her yet, but through King Sejong Institute, she will soon realize her dream.

Lee Hak June, the vice-chancellor of Wonkwang Health Science University, said “I am very glad because the two Cebuano students visited Korea for the first time since King Sejong Institute operated and I want them to experience and appreciate Korea and Korean culture first hand. Hopefully, this would be an opportunity to let the world know this event.”
