The wife of Vice Mayor Jonah John Ungab of Ronda town will undergo trial over allegations that she hit a female lawyer with a baseball bat early this year.

Prosecutor Rogelio del Prado Jr. Remanded to the court the case filed by lawyer Jiecel Tiu against Pearl Ungab after conducting a reinvestigationn of the case.

Del Prado said there is no sufficient basis to reverse an earlier ruling which downgraded the charges against Mrs. Ungab from frustrated murder to slight physical injuries.

“It is undeniable that the manner of the attack was fueled by pure hatred by the accused and jealousy blinded her judgement.

The motive of the attack is clear but it does not determine her state of mind and her intention on whether or not she tried to kill or just harm the complainant,” del Prado said.

Considering Mrs. Ungab’s status as the vice mayor’s wife, del Prado said it was unlikely that Mrs. Ungab intended to kill Tiu.

Mrs. Ungab and Tiu figured in a verbal confrontation in the parking lot of Centro Maximo where the lady lawyer holds office.

Ungab suspected Tiu of having an affair with her husband which the lawyer denied.
