Water firm to restore road after pipe-laying at SRP

The Cebu-based Pilipinas Water Resources Inc. (PWRI) is asking Cebu City Hall’s permission for them to do restoration work on the asphalt roads they opened to finish the pipe-laying at the South Road Properties (SRP).

In a letter addressed to SRP Management Office head Roberto Varquez, PWRI SRP operations manager Dim Paul Carreon said they will submit a schedule for their restoration works once they get approval from City Hall.

“We, Pilipinas Water Resources Inc. had laid potable, non-potable and waste water pipeline across SRP Highway near Filinvest Il Corso. The pipe-laying project was already completed but some of the asphalt road was not yet restored and/or needs to be retouched,” he said.

Being a traffic concern, the matter was forwarded to the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO). CCTO executive director Rey Gealon said they approved the request subject to several conditions.

These include the time frame of restoration works which should be done between 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Gealon said the road being repaired should still be passable to vehicular traffic.

Early warning devices, traffic signs and adequate lighting should also be installed in the area to forewarn approaching vehicles of the ongoing works especially since it will be done at late night to dawn.

By 4 a.m., the roadway should also be already cleared of any obstruction such as construction materials, parked vehicles and equipment to give way for vehicular traffic along the area.

After they secure approval, Gealon said he expects the PWRI to send their work schedule to his office within this week.

Gealon said there were minor accidents that occurred when PWRI did their initial pipe-laying works in the area which runs across the highway.

A hump was formed when they filled the excavated portions where the pipes were laid.

Being a highway, some motorists would speed up when passing by the portion of the Cebu South Coastal Road in the SRP. Some of them didn’t notice the hump and steel plate laid on the affected area, resulting to some accidents.

“It led to the crash of at least two motorcycles when their workers left a hump after pipe laying work on the coastal road. This was why CCTO personnel confiscated their equipment then. Now, they are again intending to do roadwork to rehabilitate whatever needs rehabilitation due to their work, that’s why we have to make sure,” Gealon said.
