Cable damage worsens traffic

Traffic congestion on Plaridel Street  in Mandaue City worsened after a  contractor of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) working on a road project damaged a  underground high voltage cable.

Ma. Rosette Martinez, National Grid Corporation of the Phils. (NGCP) Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Office head, announced that they need to excavate in the center of the road to do the repair.

The cable, which is used to transmit 138,000 volts, is not available locally.

A replacement has to be ordered from South Korea.

“We need at least 45 days to do the repair and it may be inconvenient for motorist passing along the area,” said Martinez.

She assured the public it will not affect NGCP’s distribution of power because they are using back up overhead high voltage cables.
