The pride of South Cotabato Vic “Vicious” Saludar believes his upcoming fight against Japanese WBO World minimum weight world champion Kosei Tanaka on Dec. 31 is the biggest fight of his career.
The 24-year-old prospect of ALA Boxing Gym left for Japan yesterday and said he will do his best to win the title once held by Ilonggo Merlito Sabillo.
“That’s why I’ve turned pro because I want to become a world champion,” Saludar said. “This will be the greatest and most important fight of my career. This is my dream to fight for the world title that’s why I’m going to do everything and give everything I’ve got once I’m inside that ring.”
Saludar, a former amateur standout and member of the Philippine national boxing team, said he has studied Tanaka’s style inside the ring.
“I am ready to adjust to his style. I have to be in a good position in front of him and be always ready to attack him,” Saludar, who sports an 11-1 (win-loss) record, said.
Saludar is the younger brother of WBO Inter-Continental flyweight champion Froilan “Sniper” Saludar. He recently won the vacant WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight title against Rizky Pratama in Cotabato last September to earn the world title shot against Tanaka.
Tanaka has a record of five wins with two knockouts. He won the vacant WBO world minimum weight title against Julian Yedras of Mexico last May 30 in Japan.
