RESPECTED open-sea paddler Buzzy Budlong will embark on a one-of-a-kind journey as he traverses Cebu’s northernmost and southernmost tips using different kinds of sea craft from Jan. 9 to 13.

His journey dubbed Formula 5 aims to promote the use of watercraft in Cebu’s coastal towns and barangays along Tañon Strait for five straight days.

The whole trip will cover a total distance of 260-kilometers with five pit stops where the change of crafts will be made.

Budlong will be using a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) from Daanbantayan to San Remigio, then will shift to a surfski for his trip from Mancao Point to Asturias. An outrigger canoe will then be used from Tubigmanok to Boho. He will then use a sea kayak en route to Moalboal. Finally, a type of sailboat used by local fishermen called baruto bigiw will take him from Saavedra to Santander.

The journey will not be easy because of the northeast Monsoon, which usually generates downwind of about 15 knots that can make paddling difficult.

Budlong spearheaded yesterday’s official launching of Formula 5 at the Front Gate Restaurant in uptown Cebu City. He said this trip is a dream come true for him.
