Aside from cash prizes for their winning performances, Sinulog contingents from the province can also expect incentives from the Capitol and the local governments they represent.

Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III said the winners deserve these rewards for their effort and dedication during practices.

“It doesn’t have to be a huge amount of money. But I hope it will still make the participants happy,” he said.

Davide said he will still have to consult with members of the Provincial Board (PB) regarding the matter.

Meanwhile, the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) can also expect P3 million as financial assistance from the provincial government this year.

Last year, the Capitol gave SFI P1.5 million.

The provincial government reportedly still had obligations to the foundation for 2013 and 2014, but Provincial Budget Officer Danilo Rodas said these have been included in the assistance extended in 2015.

Governor Davide said he only recently signed the obligation request for the financial aid.

The PB yesterday approved several resolutions commending contingents from the province for their respective wins.

PB Member Ivy Durano-Meca said that the Danao City government will give incentives to its contingent and the amount will be deliberated by the city council today.

Around P1 million was set aside by the city government to prepare their contingent for Sinulog.

Meca said she will still consult with Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale regarding the release of cash rewards from the PB to the winning participants.

The Carcar City Division won best in costume, best in musicality, and second place in the ritual showdown for the secondary division during the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan last January 9.

The winning performers, from the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan the week before to the grand parade last Sunday are Carcar City Division, Naga Central School, Danao City, Tuburan, and Asturias, among others.
