THE support extended by Toledo City Mayor John Henry “Sonny” Osmeña to Vice President Jejomar Binay comes with a price.

No, Osmeña did not ask anything for himself but for Toledo, a third-class city with annual income of not more than P320 million.

“I didn’t ask something for myself but (I asked) projects for my people. Baka sakali, I will die, I have legacy na maiwan sa kanila,” he said.

“I am 82 years. I cannot drink anymore, I cannot have sex anymore. At 82, it (having sex) is only in your dreams,” he added.

The mayor wanted a say on who would be appointed secretary to the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) should Binay win the presidential race in May.

A friendly DOTC secretary could pave the way for the three big projects that Osmeña wanted for his city: a seaport, because he believed the province needed an alternative seaport; an airport; and  new water systems both for Toledo and Cebu cities.

Osmeña said he and Binay have formed a strong alliance over the last six years. “I can call him anytime whenever I’m in Manila,” he said.

Osmeña admitted he also paid a hefty price for supporting Binay.

He accused the Liberal Party of replacing his chief of police with someone he did not approve of and of taking away his bodyguard.

“I have no security. My opponents are gloating over it dali kuoton kay wala security (I can be killed easily because I have no security detail),” he said. “Only three months to go (before the May 9 elections). Utong na lang (I’ll just bear it),” he added.
