A village chief in Lapu-Lapu City was shot and wounded early tonight by still unknown assailants, police said.

Basak Barangay Captain Isabelito Darnayla was headed for the village center driving his pick up when he was waylaid just about 400 meters from the Barangay Hall at around 7:30 p.m., said Chief Insp. Mark Gifter Sucalit, chief of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office’s City Intelligence Branch (CIB).

Sucalit said Darnayla, 53, was forced to halt his vehicle when a tricycle suddenly blocked his path.

Right then, an unknown assailant came on foot and shot him several times. Darnayla was reportedly hit on the left shoulder area and was rushed to the Mactan Doctors Hospital for treatment.

P01 Efren Labiste, one of the investigators, said they were still conducting follow up operations and were not sure how many suspects were involved in the incident.
