Luigi: Metro Cebu agency can solve traffic

REP. Luigi Quisumbing of Cebu’s 6th district said he will lobby for the creation of the Metro Cebu Development Authority that will address the traffic congestion in Metro Cebu.

In yesterday’s 888 News Forum, the congressman said the MCDA, which Rep. Raul del Mar of Cebu City’s north district proposed in a bill he filed in Congress 14 years ago, is needed to provide a comprehensive solution to the traffic problem.

Quisumbing said traffic will worsen in the north soon because of the Cebu International Port (CIP) in Tayud, Consolacion town.
“There will be bigger container trucks passing by Mandaue City. You also have to realize that some vehicles are not from Mandaue City but are bound for or pass by Mandaue City. We need the MCDA so that traffic ordinances from all the local government units (LGUs) comprising Metro Cebu will be reconciled,” he said.

Quisumbing said the MCDA can also provide personnel who will manage the traffic.

“Coordination between LGUs will improve and infrastructure support like the coastal diversion road, new routes  and new roads can also be possible,” he said.
