41 stingrays seized in Mandaue City public market

CEBU CITY–The Cebu Provincial Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force (CPAIFT) seized 41 stingrays during an inspection at the public market in Mandaue City, Cebu about 4:20 a.m. on Tuesday.

Mar Go, CPAIFT head, said that based on account of vendor Tata dela Cruz, the stingrays were bought from Pasil Market in Cebu City.

The stingrays weighed 44 kilos and were estimated to cost P4,400 with P100 per kilo, Go said.

Under the Cebu Provincial Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ordinance, the capture, sale and transportation of stingrays in whole or in parts of Cebu are prohibited.

Violators will be fined P3,000 on top of the P1,000 for every kilogram of fish confiscated.
