RESIDENTS of midwest Cebu towns were urged to remain vigilant as Mount Kanlaon in Negros Island continues to spew ash.

Julius Regner, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) spokesman, said residents of Cebu towns facing Negros Island should take measures to avoid respiratory complications in case ash or smoke from the volcano reaches the province.

The towns of Tabuelan, Tuburan, Asturias, Balamban, Toledo City, Pinamungajan, and Aloguinsan are located facing Negros Island.

Regner said the PDRRMO directed local disaster risk reduction management officers to conduct assessments in their respective towns.

He said these towns should prepare masks or, in the absence of these, shirts or pieces of soaked cloth that can be used to cover the mouth and nose.

Children, senior citizens, and people with respiratory problems should be kept indoors in case smoke or ash from Kanlaon reaches the towns in Cebu.
