Do you want to witness first hand, how a Nonito Donaire knockout punch works?

Then don’t miss the Filipino Flash’s title defense on April 23 at the Cebu City Sports Center against challenger Zsolt “Mr. Left Hook” Bedak especially after Donaire promised to knockout the tough Hungarian within six rounds of their 12-round WBO super bantamweight bout.

Donaire Jr. arrived in Cebu yesterday afternoon with his team and family and brimmed with confidence when he faced the local media.

Donaire Jr. and his father/trainer Nonito Sr. said that Bedak won’t be able to handle the former’s power and speed and Cebu’s heat.

Donaire said a knockout is imperative for it will open more opportunities for him to fight bigger names like IBF super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton and current WBC international silver super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux.

“This is an important fight. I have to win this impressively, possibly by knockout because I have a new mindset and a new strategy,” said Nonito.

“I am in top form. I know his style, he also has power and good defense with solid amateur background because he is an Olympian. But I am ready to counter every shot he will throw at me.”

If he wins this Saturday, the father and son tandem agreed to challenge Rigondeaux next and avenge one of his more humiliating losses.

In 2013, Donaire Jr. lost to Rigondeaux in New York via unanimous decision in their WBO and WBA super bantamweight unification fight.

“I’m not gonna climb back to the feather weight division. I want to stay as a champion for long time in this division and fight big names,” Nonito revealed.

PROUD BISDAK

The 33-year old Donaire was born in Bohol and said that this is his chance to give back to his Bisaya supporters. He said he feels more at home here in Cebu compared to Manila because he speaks Bisaya.

“When they told me that the fight will happen in Cebu, I was really excited because Cebu is like my second home,” Donaire said in Cebuano.

He and his family also celebrated the first birthday of his youngest son Logan. His wife Rachel arrived with him.

He said that he will spend the last days prior to fight night perfecting the strategy that he and his father has formulated for Bedak. “I will stay indoors and do some mitts and heavy bags and rehydrate because it’s very hot here. In fact, I did not finish a ten-round sparring in Manila because of the heat,” Nonito revealed.
