FUTURE projects and negotiations between Cebu province and South Korea will not be affected with the Korean consul’s move to vacate his position.

Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III gave this assurance after outgoing Korean Consul General Lee Ki- Seog dropped by the Cebu Provincial Capitol yesterday as his exit call to the Cebu governor.

Davide said that the purpose of the visit was to inform the provincial government that he is now vacating his position as consul as he has been promoted to ambassador.

“Di sad maglisud nga ipadayon ang cooperation with his successor (It won’t be difficult to continue our cooperation with his successor),” Davide said.

“Maayo man og relationship ang Korea ug Cebu (This is because our relationship with Korea has been good).”

Davide pointed out that Cebu province’s relationship with its Korean sister city, Busan, has always been commendable.

“There have been several times that we have been invited by Busan and we sent our delegates there,” he explained. “There were exchange of ideas and best practices.”

Davide said that the Capitol has been sending delegates to Busan since 2014, and will be sending two of their officials again this coming May, right after the elections, for diplomatic activities.

No replacement has been named as of yet to replace Lee Ki-Seong.

Lee Ki-Seong was the Consul General of the Korean Consulate in Cebu which opened last year.

Lee took over the post left by then Honorary Consul General of the Philippines to Korea Augusto Go, who stepped down in 2014.
