FROM JUST a month-long activity, the Summer Grassroots Sports Training Program of the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) will soon be a year-round project.

“We received good feedback from the parents of the children who joined in our program. We consulted with the parents to find out if we are doing a good job and the response was very positive,” said CCSC head Edward Hayco.

The free-of-charge program, which started last April 18, will have its culminating activity on Saturday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

“We are now winding up. Maybe we can start again in June. We are ironing out some kinks but we are going to expand the program. From eight to 10 locations, we will have it conducted in 21 locations in Cebu City,” added Hayco.

Open to children aged six to 16, the program was handled by athletes, who represented Region 7 in the Palarong Pambansa, Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) Meet and Batang Pinoy.

The program attracted at least 5,000 children from different barangays in Cebu City.

The program featured 18 sports disciplines such as arnis, archery, boxing, badminton, chess, dancesports, karatedo, futsal, sepak takraw, taekwondo, table tennis, track and field, volleyball, weightlifting, touch rugby, lawn tennis, softball, baseball and scrabble.
