A candidate for Lapu-Lapu City mayor, Angel Rodriguez, has filed an estafa case against One Cebu candidate for vice governor Nerissa Soon Ruiz.

Rodriguez filed the case at the Marcelo Fernan Hall of Justice last Wednesday through his counsel Epondulan-Manticajon, Reluya-Yu law firm.

He alleged that the checks that Ruiz issued to him as payment for her P1.7-million loan bounced.

Soon-Ruiz, in a statement sent to Cebu Daily News, said her checks did not bounce since these will fall due in October, November and December this year yet.

She said she also issued manager’s checks for the amount due, but she claimed that Rodriguez would not receive it.

Soon-Ruiz said she closed her checking account after she decided to settle with Rodriguez about the material and equipment that he borrowed from her which included a car and some sound systems.

Soon-Ruiz questioned the timing of the filing of the case, considering that there are only three days to go before the May 9 elections.
