At least P5.9-million worth of illegal drugs was confiscated and 2 persons including a former policeman were arrested in separate drug operations yesterday in Consolacion town in northern Cebu and in Toledo City, western Cebu.

In Consolacion town, a team from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG-7) arrested Richard Arendon in Tugbungan Proper, Barangay Tugbongan after they served a search warrant in his house yesterday morning.

The team headed by Supt. Fermin Armendarez of the CIDG-7 confiscated two large packs, 11 medium packs, 8 sachets and drug-sniffing paraphernalia from Arendon’s residence.

Armendarez said that they estimated the confiscated drugs to be worth at least P5.6 million.

He said they considered Arendon as a level 2 drug pusher who can dispose of 200 grams of illegal drugs in a week.

In the afternoon, CIDG-7 team headed by Armendarez raided a suspected drug den in Barangay Subayon, Toledo City and caught Rogelio Gutang, 30, a former policeman assigned in Toledo City in 2009.

Supt. Fermin Armendarez III of the CIDG said they served a search warrant against Geonni Olid in Sitio Nangka, Barangay Subayon and caught Gutang inside the den with the suspected shabu.

Gutang, who was also caught with an unlicensed .45 caliber pistol, didn’t resist arrest.

Olid, however, the target of the operation escaped through the backdoor of the house.

Armendarez said Gutang was a former police officer who joined the service in 2009.

However, he went absent without official leave (AWOL) after he was investigated and was served a bench warrant for failing to attend a court hearing.

He was dropped from the police rolls in 2014.
