TALISAY City Mayor Johnny V. “JVR” Delos Reyes launched a signature campaign for a recall election after he questioned his loss to former congressman Eduardo Gullas Sr. in last Monday’s elections.

Gullas won with 58,068 votes against JVR’s 22,855 votes. The mayor’s supporters gathered at the East Visayan Academy gym in Bulacao for the signature campaign.

The mayor said he believed there was a manipulation of the vote-counting machines (VCMs) and the vote-buying was just one of many fronts used by Gullas.

The mayor’s son, Talisay City administrator John Yre delos Reyes, said their supporters are also willing to raise funds to support their campaign.

He said they are targeting to collect the signatures of 10 percent of the registered voters of Talisay.

Talisay City Vice Mayor and mayoral candidate Romeo Villarante also alleged that there was a manipulation of VCMs.

Villarante garnered 12,524 votes.
