The calendar

ALL is set for the 2016 edition of “Gabii sa Kabilin” tomorrow, May 27. Joy Gerra initiated this at Casa Gorordo and other heritage spots years back, and now it has ballooned into a multifarious activity.

Zelia Borromeo informs us that Maribi Mapa Garcia will be in town to give a talk on Saturday, May 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Mark’s Hotel near the Redemptorist Church.

Her topic will be “mending broken pieces of self worth and self image.” Maribi is the author of the books “Presence for busy People” and “Healing Presence.”

On this occasion, she and Fr. Rafael Borromeo SJ will launch a third book, titled “Presence of Golden Twilight Years.” A fee of P495 will cover lunch and two snacks.

A reminder for Saturday, May 28, at 6 p.m. at the SM Seaside City Cebu Centerstage theater is the concert “Music of the Night–Serenata at 16 Goes Broadway.” It celebrates the 16th anniversary of the UP Cebu Serenata choir.

In the program are songs from “Miss Saigon,” “The Sound of Music,” “Phantom of the Opera,” and “Les Miserables.” Tickets, available at the
entrance, are at P300 and P200.

On Sunday May 29 at 6 p.m., also at SM Seaside City Cebu’s Centerstage theater is the grand launching concert of the Classical Youth Orchestra.

Conducted by Professor Reynaldo Abellana, it is composed of 100 young people from Rey’s Classic Orchestra Music Studio. Admission is free, but be on time to get a good seat. All 800 may just be filled up!

Ingrid Sala Santamaria is the soloist in the Grieg Piano Concerto that highlights the program. Also featured are baritone Kelly Go Ko and the Cebu Normal University Chorale conducted by Professor Darlene Yap.

In the program are compositions by Bach and Anderson, movie themes, Broadway tunes, and Filipino folk songs.

Festive Flowers of May is the theme chosen by the Zonta Club of Cebu 1 for its installation of
officers and directors on Tuesday, May 31, at the Casino Español de Cebu 7 p.m.

Isabel “Chabeng” Garcia will take over the presidency from Nellie Chiu, for the term 2016-2018.

It will culminate with the club’s 50th anniversary in 2018, having been in Cebu since 1968.

Rudy and Tucing Perez will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday June 4 with a Mass at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel.

Julius and Nelia Neri will also mark their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 5. The celebration has already taken place as their sons Jay-Jay, Jed, Justin and Jovi hosted a surprise party for them last night at Montebello.

Balletcenter will hold its Summer Spectacular 2016 titled “Classical Breeze and a Jazzy Twist” on June 10 and 11 at 6 p.m., at the Onstage theater of Ayala Center Cebu.

This we learn from Josh Romayla, Balletcenter’s company manager who’d like to thank the following: Marco Polo Plaza Hotel, the Arts Council, Ayala Center Cebu and Mme. Amparito Lhuillier.

We’ll tell you more in a future issue.
