A BULK water supplier of the Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) is planning to put up a desalination plant in Mactan Island, which will supply an additional 7,000 cubic meters of water per day in Lapu-Lapu City.

Engineer Gabino Abejo Jr., president of Abejo Water Corp., said their company’s water sources has a total capacity of 45,000 cubic meters to supply water from Talisay to Consolacion.

Abejo said their plan to build the desalination plant in Lapu-Lapu City can add 7,000 cubic meters more to their water supply capacity.

“Kaning sa Mactan, brackish water man ni nga desalination, pero ang planta nga atong ibutang diha gikan pa na sa Europe nga gi-import gyud na namo specifically for the Mactan project (The Mactan project is for the desalination of brackish water. However, the desalination plant that we plan to put up specifically for the Mactan project will be imported from Europe,)” he said.

Abejo made the announcement after last Saturday’s inauguration of their latest water well in Barangay Casuntingan, Mandaue City.

The water well called the Cabancalan Bulk Water Supply will enable AWC to supply 6,000 cubic meters of water to MCWD daily.

Engineer Noel Dalena, acting general manager of MCWD, said they will pay P15 for every cubic meter of water AWC will supply from the Cabancalan Bulk Water Supply.

This means that AWC will earn at least P90,000 daily for supplying 6,000 cubic meters of water from their new well to MCWD.

The Cabancalan Bulk Water Supply of AWC already started serving MCWD’s water consumers in Mandaue City last
Saturday.

Dalena said that the Cabancalan well can even supply water to as far as V. Rama, Urgello, and Pasil areas.

“Ingon ana ka complex ang water system sa MCWD bisan layo kaayo ni naa sa Cabancalan,” Dalena said.

Abejo also said that although their contract with MCWD is 6,000 cubic meters per day, they can still add 2,000 cubic meters if MCWD will demand an additional volume of water.
