Health Secretary Janette Garin led the groundbreaking of the first government-run cancer center in Central Visayas.

Garin flew to Cebu on Tuesday afternoon, days before her tenure ends on June 30.

The new cancer center will be inside the compound of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).

The bidding started last March and was awarded to the lowest bidder, Cuerpo Construction, on June 6,

The project is worth P475.8 million and is funded by the national government.
