DESPITE losing their first game, the Cebu City Niños Under-17 Sepak Takraw team kept its title hopes in the 3rd Mayor’s Cup Sepak Takraw National Championships alive with successive victories yesterday in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte.

The Niños, led by Coach Marlon Gicain, lost to Oroquieta City in their first game but recovered to beat Dipolog City, Amonra-Dipolog and Zamboanga City, respectively, in the single-round robin tournament.

Their fate, though, lies on the hands of Oroquieta City, which was playing Amonra-Dipolog at press time. If Oroquieta loses that game, the Niños will be crowned champions. A win will give the team from Misamis Occidental the crown.

On Wednesday night, Oroquieta defeated the Cebuano team in three sets, 24-25, 21-15, 16-21. The Niños trounced host Dipolog City, 21-19, 21-14; crushed Amonra-Dipolog, 21-19, 22-10; and turned back Zamboanga City, 21-15, 21-19, to remain in contention.
