ONE of the most hotly recruited high school volleyball stars Lorene Grace Toring has decided to don the Adamson University (ADU) Baby Falcons jersey together with her younger sister, Ella, in the upcoming University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

The former Southwestern University (SWU) Cobra middle blocker was supposed to suit up for Hope Christian High School (HCHS) but had a change of heart.

Toring said she was not supposed to study at Adamson but her parents pulled her out of Hope “because of a confidential reason.”

Toring, 16, also received offers from the University of the East (UE), University of the Philippines (UP) and the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU).

“Nice sad og offer ang Adamson together with my sister. Ni leave ko og SWU kay naay better opportunities diri and siguro time na para mo step og higher level (Adamson has a nice offer for me and my sister. I left SWU because there are better opportunities and I think it’s time to step up to a higher level),” she said.

The six-foot Toring, who has amassed several awards such as winning back-to-back CESAFI Best Blocker Awards (2014, 2015) and the 2015 Shakeys 1st Middle Blocker tiara, will be joined in Adamson by her younger sister Ella and cousin Aprylle Tagsip.

The 14-year-old Ella Toring, who has been playing with Lorene Grace in SWU, claims she’s not pressured to play with her sister in Adamson whom she admitted has a better game than her.

“It cannot be avoided that people will be comparing us. There’s no pressure because we’re close and I admit she’s the better player and I am proud of her,” the younger Toring added.

Baby Falcons mentor Marvin Ramoso believes the Toring sisters and Tagsip will play vital roles in their upcoming UAAP campaign.

“Because of their height, magiging taller ang lineup ng Baby Falcons. In terms of their blockings and attacks, of course, advantage ang height nila. And siguro yung experience din kahit papano kasi nag Palaro sila kasi ang Baby Falcons composed of walk-in players lang and hindi nakaranas nang Palarong Pambansa,” Ramoso said .
