THE Cebu City Council has put on hold the decision to approve Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena’s executive order creating the Long Life Medical Assistance Program and its implementing arm the Barangay Mayor’s Office.

City Councilor David Tumulak, chairman of the Committee on Health, said the mayor should first clarify certain points of the program which include the coverage of the program and the role of the Barangay Mayor’s Office as well.

Tumulak said there should be a study of prevailing diseases that would require maintenance on top of the hypertension and diabetes that are covered by a package of the Department of Health.

He also said that the BMO would create complications on the role of Barangay Health Centers (BHC), and he sought the scope of work of the BMO, organizational chart and staffing pattern.

The committee wants a clearer understanding of the program and to see if this program is the same as that of the DOH.

Tumulak also said that they also would want the mayor to define the qualified residents who would be beneficiaries of this program.
