THE Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners (PIEP), an organization of licensed planners accredited by the Philippine Regulation Commission, is holding its regional conference and oath-taking of new environmental planners at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino starting today until tomorrow.

Arnulfo P. Fabillar, president of PIEP Cebu Chapter, said PIEP Cebu will be the host chapter for this regional conference.

Fabillar said the theme for the event is “Approaches to Livability and Resiliency: Shelter, Open Space, and Connectivity (Mainstreaming the “New Normal” in Planning),” in recognition of the important role of urban centers in developing local communities and transforming them into viable political units and serving as partners of the national government for sustainable economic development.

Fabillar said the convention will tackle issues ranging from land use and transport, open space, shelter, disaster risk management and climate change adaptation, green development and smart growth and advocacy on the use of renewable energy based on the new environmental planning law (RA 10587).

He said local government units in Central Visayas and Mindanao were invited to allow their respective planning coordinators or officers to attend the conference.

Environmental planner Cocoy Alesna of the PIEP Cebu Secretariat said around 250 planners, architects, engineers and real estate practitioners from various parts of the country are expected to attend.

He said conference sponsors will be allowed to set up tables at the venue to display their products or present their services.
Interested participants and sponsors may call Alesna at (0917) 6231330 or (032) 2340214 for inquiries or send e-mail at [email protected].
