Tomas orders recall of all city-issued firearms

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña ordered all Cebu City hall department heads, employees, appointees, city councilors, barangay officials and police officials assigned in Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) to return all city government issued firearms.

Osmeña said that he ordered the recall for inventory purposes.

Apparently, many of the firearms issued to policemen who have already retired and are no longer in Cebu were not properly turned over or returned to the city government.

“You are hereby directed to return all issued firearms under your possession to the City Government through the GSO (Government Services Office) within five days from receipt of the notice,” the mayor’s memorandum order wrote.

He added that those who have issued firearms can no longer use the firearms without his written consent or authority.

“The city is not going to keep the firearms. We’re just trying to make sure the guns end up with police who are actually working here,” he said.
