Itchyworms at the Philippine Popular Musical Festival

“DI Na Muli,” a song about the bittersweet story of love and relationships bagged the grand prize in this year’s Philippine Popular Music Festival held at the Kia Theater in Quezon City last July 23.

Wally Acolola and Jazz Nicolas co-wrote the winning song and was interpreted by Nicolas’ band The Itchyworms. They were awarded with a P1-million cash prize.

The first runner-up was “Lahat” by Soc Villanueva and interpreted by Jason Dy. They brought home P500,000.

While second place, which came with a P250,000 cash prize, was bagged by Miguel and Paolo Guico’s “Tinatangi.” The song was performed by Bayang Barrios and Cooky Chua.

Special awards were given to Villanueva’s “Lahat,” (Maynilad People’s Award) and the PLDT-Smart Best Music Video went to “Tinatangi” by Guico twins.

Judges were Noel Cabangon, Rico Blanco, Gloc-9, Joanna Ampil and Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Randolph Estrellado.

Philpop is an annual songwriting competition organized by the Philpop MusicFest Foundation headed by Manny V. Pangilinan, Ryan Cayabyab and Patricia Bermudez-Hizon.
